As hurricane Irma pounded through Highlands county on September 9-10 and left a path of destruction, our September meeting was cancelled. President, Margo Sanders dubbed out meeting on October 11 as the "Septober" meeting of the Lake Placid Garden Club. She welcomed 39 members and 10 guests and discussed the events planned for the year.
The hostess committee served a "white" bag lunch and Sharon Diaz made blueberry cookies for dessert.
The speakers for the September program were the boys the Club sponsored for Wekiva summer camp. They spoke about their experiences at camp (It was FUN!!]
Our speaker for the October program was Bill Parken, the Coordinator of the Ridge Ranger Program and tor the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. During his slide show, he discussed the Ridge Range Program and Project Acorn. Several of our members have contributed "sweat" hours for Project Acorn.
During the business meeting, the 2017-2018 budget was approved and several chairmen gave committee reports. Several members participated in Fuss & Brag.
